The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) believes that telecom operators in the country will need more than a year and a half to fully implement the technology to help block all pesky calls according to the amended regulations on unwarranted commercial calls and messages. In an interaction with the media on Friday, Rajan S. Mathews, Director General of COAI said that“It’s going to take a minimum of a year and a half… by the time it’s tested, verified and ready”....

Taking technology enthusiasts by surprise, Google is reportedly planning a re-entry into the Chinese market. ButChinese media has denied the veracity of the original report, saying China Securities Daily, a state-owned newspaper, reported today that Google’s return to China might be a much distant affair than it seemed. Putting an end to mass surveillance fears, the central government has now withdrawn its controversial plan to establish‘social media monitoring hubs’across the country. The centre informed the Supreme Court of this decision, which means we won’t see any such hubs pop up around the country. The government had put forth aproposal to set up ‘social media communication hubs’ (SMCH) across the countryto monitor online activity, but the Supreme Court was afraid that it’lllead to the creation of a surveillance stateand said it would impede the right of privacy of their citizens....

Already the second-largest smartphone company globally aftergoing past Applelast month, China’s Huawei has now declared ambitions of knocking leader Samsung off its perch. The company, as mentioned already, is currently the second-largest smartphone vendor in the world behind Samsung, having gone past Apple during the second quarter of this year. According to reports, Huawei shipped a total of 54.2 million units during the April-June quarter, giving it a 15.8 percent market-share – up from 11 percent last year....

Huawei was third with 3.4 million tablet shipments and 10.3 per cent market share and Lenovo fourth, shipping 2 million units with 6 per cent market share. Huawei had an impressive 7.7 per cent growth (year-over-year) from the same quarter last year while Apple registered 0.9 per cent growth. The global shipments fell to 33 million from 38.3 million in the same quarter last year, according to IDC’s “Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker”....
